Succulents-Grass-Moss-Earthy-Ethnic-Chicago-Wedding-4Saturday’s bride, Iwona, asked us for a “green” wedding, something environmentally mindful and ecologically pure. An exciting challenge! The reception was held at one of the most beautiful natural settings Succulents-Grass-Moss-Earthy-Ethnic-Chicago-Wedding-2in the Chicago land area; the former country estate of Daniel and Ada Rice — now a forest preserve in Wheaton, IL called Danada House. The centuries old trees, beautifully planted gardens, and flowering shrubs that surround the house are just perfect to help fulfill a Iwona’s dream

We set the table with centerpieces that combined a collection of grasses, mosses, succulents, and all green flowers. Including trick dianthus, Fuji mums, and jade dendrobiums. We even added twigs for a more rustic look.

Succulents-Grass-Moss-Earthy-Ethnic-Chicago-Wedding-8A “tree” was constructed for the place card table, and tiny succulent plants were interspersed with the cards, which were laid under it. There were also some little succulents in clay pots that were used as place favors on the dinner tables.

Her bouquet, of course, reflected all of this earthy wonderfulness. It also contained succulents, twigs, etc. accompanied by trails of green hanging amaranths.

This wedding had another unusual feature as well. Iwona is of Polish decent, and she had a group of costumed musicians on the front patio playing ethnic music of the Polish Highlands to welcome guests as they arrived. A truly wonderful and unexpected touch! Also, staying true to her roots, she was married in Lombard in a Roman Catholic Church, where the only language spoken is Polish.

The weather was so perfect, and everyone was excited to see such a new look — We’re calling it: Green With An Ethnic Twist!

What a privilege to bring someone’s dream to life!
